A social network for record collectors.

Vinylfy home feed with posts from people you follow

Vinylfy was a social network for record collectors. You keep track of what you own, keep a list of what you're still after, and see what everybody else is spinning.

Three of us built it. This was 2012, we were in our twenties, and we were all into music. So we made the thing we wanted to use. It never turned into a full fledged company, but we enjoyed every second of it.

We entered Startup Blast Off at SuperConf in Miami, and we won. Hell yeah. That's what pushed us to stop treating it like a side thing and actually try to make a company out of it. I was in Cuba at the time, doing all of this from a distance.

Let's take a closer look

This is the original, more or less. I recreated it a little bit better, close to what we had but cleaned up to match where design is now.

Vinylfy home feed
Homepage
The feed is where everyone shares what they're spinning. Post a record from your collection, or just say hi.
Vinylfy collection grid of owned records
Collection
This is where you keep a list of what you own. Covers in a grid, or a list view when you want year, format, genre and label all in one place.
Vinylfy wishlist in list view
Wishlist
The wishlist is the same thing as collection for the records you don't have yet.
Vinylfy marketplace with records from your wishlist, recommendations, and listings near you
Marketplace
The marketplace is where you buy and sell records. It opens with the listings that match your wishlist, then recommendations based on your taste. It's a typical reseller's market.

Here's more of the work. Take a look around.

Vinylfy wordmark with the V built from a turntable needle
Oh, did I mention I did the brand too?
The whole wordmark is custom, drawn from scratch with no font anywhere. I shaped it to look like a turntable needle, right down to the tip sitting on the baseline like it's dropping into a groove. I had way too much fun with this one.
